Por qué importa el tipo de piel
Most skincare mistakes happen not because of bad products, but because of misidentified skin. Treating oily skin
like dry skin — or sensitive skin like normal — leads to imbalance, breakouts, and
premature aging. This guide gives you the knowledge to choose with precision.

The Balanced Canvas
Genetically balanced and well-regulated, normal skin is the ideal — minimal imperfections, fine pores, and a soft, even texture. It neither overproduces oil nor lacks moisture.
- Well-balanced sebum production
- Barely visible pores
- Smooth, even complexion
- Rarely breaks out
- Comfortable throughout the day
The Thirsty Canvas
Dry skin produces less natural oil than needed, resulting in a compromised lipid barrier. It craves hydration and nourishment, and responds beautifully to rich, emollient formulas.
- Feeling of tightness, especially after cleansing
- Dull, rough, or flaky patches
- Invisible pores
- Less elastic, more prone to fine lines
- Worsens in cold or dry weather
El lienzo luminoso
Driven by overactive sebaceous glands, oily skin produces excess sebum throughout the day. While prone to congestion, it also ages more slowly — a silver lining worth embracing.
- Visible shine by midday
- Enlarged or clearly visible pores
- Prone to blackheads and breakouts
- Thick, resilient skin texture
- Foundation tends not to last
The Dual Canvas
The most common type worldwide, combination skin presents differently across the face — oilier in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) while dry or normal on the cheeks.
- Shiny T-zone, drier cheeks
- Enlarged pores around the nose
- Occasional breakouts in oilier zones
- Cheeks may feel tight after cleansing
- Requires targeted, zone-specific care
The Reactive Canvas
Sensitive skin is not a type in itself but a condition that can coexist with any type. It signals a weakened skin barrier that overreacts to triggers — both environmental and topical.
- Redness, stinging, or burning sensation
- Reacts to fragrances, alcohol, or heat
- Prone to rosacea or eczema-like responses
- Requires minimal, fragrance-free formulas
- Benefits from barrier-strengthening ingredients
Sebaceous Activity
El aceite que te protege
Sebum is not your enemy. This natural lipid cocktail — produced by sebaceous glands and secreted through hair follicles — forms a crucial part of the acid mantle, the skin's first line of defense against bacteria, pollution, and water loss.
The problem arises only when production is dysregulated. Hormonal shifts (puberty, pregnancy, menopause), diet high in refined sugars, stress, and excessive cleansing can all trigger overproduction. Conversely, genetics, certain medications, cold climates, and harsh stripping cleansers reduce it.
THE MARIE D'ARGAN PRINCIPLE
"Never strip the skin to create balance. Support its sebum regulation through botanicals that communicate with the sebaceous gland itself — not those that merely absorb the excess."
Signs your sebum is dysregulated
- Breakouts that appear cyclically with your menstrual cycle or stress peaks
- Skin that is oily in summer and dry in winter regardless of your routine
- Congestion (blackheads, milia) concentrated in specific zones
- Tightness that appears within 30 minutes of cleansing
La barrera cutánea
La armadura invisible de tu piel
The stratum corneum — the outermost layer of the epidermis — functions like a brick wall. Corneocytes (dead, flattened skin cells) act as bricks; the lipid matrix surrounding them acts as mortar. Together, they prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and block environmental aggressors.
When this barrier is compromised — by over-exfoliation, harsh surfactants, UV damage, or certain skin conditions — water escapes freely and irritants penetrate easily. The result: sensitivity, dehydration, inflammation, and accelerated aging, regardless of your skin type.
How to identify a damaged barrier
- Products that used to work now sting or cause redness
- Persistent dehydration even when drinking enough water
- A feeling of "rawness" after gentle cleansing
- Unusual breakouts in areas you've never had them before
- Skin that looks dull and lackluster despite hydration
THE MARIE D'ARGAN PRINCIPLE
"Never strip the skin to create balance. Support its sebum regulation through botanicals that communicate with the sebaceous gland itself — not those that merely absorb the excess."
Piel a través del tiempo
Your skin type changes with time
Formulated for your type
Each ingredient has a specific language it speaks with the skin. Matching them to your type is the foundation of effective skincare.
Argan oil
ALL TYPES · ESPECIALLY DRY & NORMAL
Rich in oleic and linoleic acids, argan oil mimics the skin's natural sebum profile — nourishing without clogging. High in Vitamin E and polyphenols for antioxidant protection.
Hyaluronic Acid
ALL TYPES · ESPECIALLY DEHYDRATED
A powerful humectant capable of holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Works in multiple molecular weights to hydrate across different skin layers simultaneously.
Niacinamide
OILY · COMBINATION · SENSITIVE
A form of Vitamin B3 that regulates sebum production, minimizes the appearance of pores, reduces inflammation, and strengthens the skin barrier — versatile and exceptionally well-tolerated.
Ceramides
DRY · SENSITIVE · ALL AGES 35+
Lipids naturally present in the skin barrier. Supplementing ceramide levels repairs and fortifies the barrier, reduces TEWL, and restores the skin's ability to retain moisture.
Retinol
NORMAL · OILY · MATURE SKIN
A Vitamin A derivative that accelerates cell turnover, stimulates collagen production, refines pore size, and addresses hyperpigmentation. Requires gradual introduction and must always be paired with SPF.
Salicylic Acid
OILY · COMBINATION · ACNE-PRONE
A beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that is oil-soluble, allowing it to penetrate inside the pore and dissolve congestion at its source. Anti-inflammatory and comedolytic.
La rutina diaria esencial
Whatever your skin type, a consistent and intelligent daily ritual is the foundation. The steps remain the same; the formulas change.
Gentle Cleanse
60 SEGUNDOS
Tónico Hidratante
Applied on damp skin, a toner replenishes moisture and prepares the surface for better absorption of subsequent steps. Look for hydrating actives like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or aloe vera.
APPLY, THEN WAIT 30 SECONDS
Targeted Serum
The most concentrated step in your routine. Select based on your skin's primary concern: brightening, barrier support, sebum regulation, or anti-aging. Apply thin-to-thick: lighter serums first.
1–2 MINUTES TO ABSORB
Moisturizer
Seals in moisture and forms a protective film over active ingredients. Gel-cream for oily skin; rich emollient creams for dry skin. Even oily skin must moisturize — dehydration increases oil production.
ALLOW TO SETTLE 2 MINUTES
Broad-Spectrum SPF
The single most impactful anti-aging step available. SPF 30 minimum daily — regardless of season or skin tone. UV radiation is the leading cause of premature aging, pigmentation, and skin cancer. Non-negotiable.
LAST STEP, NO RUBBING

Myths we need to dismantle
"Oily skin doesn't need moisturizer"
Oiliness and hydration are not the same thing. Skin can be both oily and dehydrated simultaneously. Skipping moisturizer actually triggers more oil production as the skin compensates for perceived dryness.
Use a lightweight, non-comedogenic gel moisturizer for oily skin. Hydration and sebum regulation work together, not in opposition, when you choose correctly formulated products.
"Natural ingredients are always gentle on sensitive skin"
Many potent allergens and irritants come directly from nature — essential oils, certain plant extracts, and even some botanical acids. "Natural" does not equal hypoallergenic or gentle.

Internal hydration has a minimal effect on the skin's outermost layers. The stratum corneum receives hydration from below (inside) and above (topical products). Drinking water supports overall health, but it will not cure clinically dry skin.
"SPF is only necessary in summer"
UVA radiation — responsible for photoaging and DNA damage — penetrates clouds and glass year-round, at equal intensity in winter and summer. Incidental UV exposure accounts for the majority of lifetime sun damage.
